Book your stayWe aim to provide everything you may need for a comfortable and cosy stay. All bedding and towels are provided along with some travel size toiletries such as shampoo and soaps.
A welcome pack of tea, coffee and milk will be available for your arrival along with a starter pack of kindling and logs for your first night.
Heating in our cottages is included in the cost of your stay. The radiators will be on programmed timers and some may be over night storage heaters.
Each cottage also has a log burner, logs and kindling will be provided for your arrival, however more logs can be purchased from Northumbrian Hamper and the petrol station in Seahouses.
We know for many guests WiFi is essential and for others a holiday is a chance to get away from it all.
All our cottages have WiFi that will allow general use of searching the web and checking emails. However, may not be a strong enough service for streaming and downloading films. Seahouses sometimes struggles for phone service but you can usually find some somewhere. Alternatively, all the WiFi codes are displayed prominently in the cottages.
One well behaved medium dog is welcome in most of our cottages at the weekly charge of £15.00-£25.00.
Guillemot accepts up to two medium size dogs.
We believe that your dog is part of your family and with so many beautiful walks and outside adventures, we know they’ll enjoy their stay as much as you.
We do request that dogs do not go on the furniture or in the bedrooms and if they are wet or dirty, please towel dry them before letting them on the carpets.
Unfortunately, not, it’s not that we don’t want much loved family members to join you, however. We do not allow pets on the furniture and for an indoor cat it would be difficult to expect them not to climb on the furniture. Unlike dogs, indoor cats need indoor litter trays which we feel can lead to odours in the property.
All three of our Seahouses cottages are positioned within approximately 150m of the harbour and within 200m of the coastal path.
Within walking distance, you will find, shops, pubs, restaurants, a chemist, a petrol garage and a supermarket.
There is a large Co-Op on the main street in Seahouses which should have all the essentials you might need for your stay. Alternatively, Alnwick is the nearest town which is 25 minutes’ drive away. Here you’ll find Sainsburys, Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl for a wider choice.
The minimum night stay in any of our cottages is 3 nights and our short breaks run from the end of October to early April. During the spring and summer months we take week longs stays or longer.
Our check in and check out days for week long stays are Friday to Friday.
Our check in days for short breaks are Mondays or Fridays. Our three-night stays generally run from Friday night to Monday morning and our short stays during the week usually run from Monday to Friday.
If you would like to arrange a stay outside of these days, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Emptying the bins and making sure the external bins are put out for collection on the correct day.
This is to ensure that the rubbish is taken away regularly. Recycling and general waste disposal are on a bi-weekly cycle so if the bin doesn’t go out the next guests will have a full bin.
Opening windows before you leave to ventilate the property
Please empty the dishwasher before leaving and do not load it with dirty dishes for the cleaning team.
Please do not leave the heating on full when you vacate the property, please return it to its programmed settings.
When booking directly with us, we request a £150 non-refundable deposit at the time of booking to secure your reservation. The remaining balance is due 6 weeks prior to your arrival.
Should there be any breakages during your stay, please notify us so we can replace this item for the next guest. This ensures that everyone has the level of stay we set out to deliver.
Yes, fresh laundry can be arranged if you are staying for longer than a week. Whilst this won’t be a full cottage clean, a change of linen will be discussed with you prior to your arrival.
Due to the current Corona Virus pandemic we are trying to eliminate entering the property during your stay. We can still provide fresh laundry if you wish, we ask that you strip the beds and put the laundry in the laundry bag provided and leave outside the back door of your property. We will then leave fresh laundry in it pace for you to put on the bed.
Numbers of who to contact should you need assistance are displayed in the welcome folder in each cottage. For cottages based in Seahouses, we have a management team locally.
Absolutely! We’d love to help you plan your stay. If you don’t find the information you are looking for on our website, please drop us an email we’d be delighted to point you in the right direction. All our cottages also hold a wealth of information and leaflets of places to visit.
All our cottages have parking for at least one car. This information will be supplied to you with your check-in information.
It is important that when staying in one of our Seahouses cottages you park in the designated parking areas provided. Parking in Seahouses in the summer season can be busy and therefore in order to ensure parking at neighbouring properties works smoothly, please park in the marked areas.
Having a car when you visit the area gives the most amount of flexibility due to Northumberland’s rural and coastal location.
If you wish to just use the cottages as a base for walking, many walks can be done from the door step in Seahouses. There are local bus services, and a good source of information can be found here.
https://www.northumberlandcoastaonb.org/getting-around/
Even if you arrive by car for your holiday, the coastal bus service can be a good option to get to you back to the cottage if you’ve walked one way.
There are main train stations at Berwick upon Tweed and Alnmouth near Alnwick. A much smaller village station can be found at Chat Hill.
We want you to enjoy your holiday as much as possible. If for any reason you can no longer attend the break you have booked, we will always do our best to accommodate you on alternative dates or an alternative cottage if suitable. This will be subject to the availability and may mean an increase or reduction in cost depending on the time of year. There may be an administration change for changing your documentation and we do ask that you request your change of stay in writing or an email to us.
Our check in times are 4.00 pm and check out is 10.00 am.
An electrical car charging point is currently available at Swallows Rest and this can be added onto your reservation at the time of booking.
Regrettably electric car charging points are not currently available at any of our Seahouses properties at the present time.
It is prohibitive to charge a vehicle off domestic sockets in any of our properties and we have the right to ask you to leave and a £100 penalty imposed.
We are always looking to improve our service and we are currently looking into whether further car charging points at our properties is something we can offer.
Car charging points can be found at the following links
https://northumberland250.com/ev-charging-stations
Car charging points can also be found in the following towns and villages:
Alnwick
Bamburgh
Berwick upon Tweed
Cragside
Craster
Keilder
Seahouses
Wooler
(This list is not exhaustive and further points can be found using the two links above)
Our full accessibility statement can be found in the footer of our homepage.
If you have accessibility requirements please do speak to us.
Swallows Rest is a large open plan property with accessible doors and a ground floor wet room.
Tern Cottage whilst not specifically tailored for those with accessibility needs, it is, for the majority on one level. (There are two steps into the kitchen and two into the bathroom). Some guests do find this property works for them.
Everyone can enjoy the beaches in Northumberland too with the help of Beach Access North East
We are highly aware of the impact tourism can have on an area, which is why we are always working on providing sustainable tourism.
All our welcome packs are provided by local businesses from our tea and coffee to our bathroom toiletries.
Our properties have required extensive work over the last few years and we wouldn’t have been able to bring them up to the standard they are without local trades and teams to help us.
Many of our blinds for our properties have been handmade by myself.
Our cottages all contain book swap areas where guests can take a book and leave a book. A great way to recycle.
